"So what was the next part of your plan, after you saved us?"
Just one page of William Bazillion this week, but I think it's a good one...

And just to bulk up this entry, I'll remind all y'all that I've got a Facebook account where you can keep track of all of my blog announcements among other things, and the lovely and talented Shaenon K. Garrity has one, too.

And, in an effort to drum up additional conversation, does anyone else like the 1989 Batman movie more than this summer's Dark Knight movie? The 2008 Batman needed about 200% more Prince on the soundtrack...

*Raises hand* I thought the new Dark Knight was decent, but I wasn't as super impressed with it as a lot of people seem to be. The older one (and Batman Returns, but nothing after Burton left) really feel a lot more like the comics to me. I think people are also forgetting that those Batman movies? Were incredibly dark and gritty in terms of superhero movies for their time; I mean, Batman was fresh off of Superfriends.

And then there's the Prince factor.

It could be that I've had a downer of a summer, but I actually felt kind of depressed after seeing Dark Knight, like I needed a long shower afterward. Batman Begins explored some of the pros of being Batman, despite his dark origin story, while Dark Knight was all about how much it completely and totally sucks to be Batman.

I've mentioned this on other people's blogs, but I thought the *sound* of the movie was terrible. The acting was top-notch, the action scenes were suitably intense, the designs were pretty good...but the audio wrecked a lot of it for me. Batman's lines were mostly inaudible, and the soundtrack never seemed to pull back for a second. I think that the composer got paid by the note.

Just how many Fatties has William gone through, exactly?

It's best not to think about it. They're really only a few weeks into this adventure, so it's not like Fatty's lasted *that* long yet.

I still prefer the surreal and quirky mixed with the darkness approach to the Burton films compared to the endless darkness and how real can we try to convince you this is attempts by Nolan. Gotham City is just way cooler to look at and play in with the Burton films.

That said I enjoyed Dark Knight over Begins. Mostly because of Gordon.

I'm willing to give Dark Knight another shot when I'm in a peppier mood. Gordon's role was better this time around, although I was distracted by his hair--he looked a little like Commissioner Dolan from The Spirit.

Iron Man's still my favorite superhero movie of the summer, with Hellboy 2 a close second. I went into Hellboy without any particular expectations, and just had a blast watching del Toro and Mignola cut loose with fun visuals and just enough of a story to hold things together. It had one of the same big strengths as the first Hellboy movie, which is that it never stops to be introspective or linger on anything. It just keeps moving forward, and doesn't waste a lot of time on talking, which is exactly what I wanted out of it.

Agreed on the Burton flavor.

I don't know if I'm allowed in this conversation, having not seen _Dark Knight_, but I saw _Batman Begins_. Still love Burton's Batman. It recently crossed my mind again how super fun "Party Man" is.
